Meet the Iris Leadership Team

Tarik Shaheen, M.D.
Founder and CEO

Dr. Shaheen is a board-certified psychiatrist with specialized fellowship training in treating children, adolescents and their families. He founded Iris Telehealth with the goal of providing a more patient-friendly telehealth company that is able to quickly adapt to an organization’s needs. With more than 10 years of experience and training at the University of Virginia in telepsychiatry, Dr. Shaheen has learned the ins and outs of how to give great care via telemedicine and how important building relationships between partners is to delivering that care. Leading Iris Telehealth, he is able to enjoy his clinical role just as much as his administrative one!

Adam Hemmen
Vice President of Operations

Adam brings an outside perspective to Iris Telehealth and is focused on the day-to-day operations of our company. He graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in Business Administration, with focus on International Business and Leadership Studies. Prior to working for Iris, Adam specialized in helping small to midsized businesses develop strategic growth plans. He has held a variety of positions from consulting to sales and marketing and also owned and operated a chain of frozen yogurt stores. According to Adam, it was delicious. He has a knack for business and a love for telemedicine. When Adam is not working, he enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf, and quoting random Seinfeld lines.

Tom Milam, M.D., M.Div.
Medical Director

Dr. Tom Milam manages our team of clinicians and guides them in telemedicine and industry best practices. He received his undergraduate degree from WVU in Anthropology, graduating summa cum laude, and received his M.D. from the University of Virginia. His residency training in psychiatry took place at Duke and UVA. Dr. Milam has served in a leadership role throughout his psychiatric career and spearheaded the telepsychiatry initiative at his previous hospital. Dr. Milam is also an ordained Episcopalian priest, and got his Master of Divinity Degree from Yale. He is a fan of various sports and traveling with his wife and four children. In his free time he enjoys DIY projects, “honey-do” lists, and driving his convertible sports car.

Ed DeLeon
Vice President of Finance

Ed is a number crunching machine who focuses on all things finance and accounting for Iris Telehealth. His professional background includes banking at JP Morgan and the NY Fed before taking his corporate finance experience to high-growth ventures. A graduate of the University of Chicago with a degree in economics, he joined the Cubs and Bears fandoms during his time in the Windy City. He’s a Texas native who’s enjoyed living in big cities such as NYC and LA. Ed is an active person who loves participating in sports of all kinds — tennis, cycling, basketball, golf, you name it! When he’s not being uber athletic, he’s probably playing with his adorable dog Zeke.

Emily Furnari, Ph.D.
Director of Clinical Operations and IT Services

Emily has the wonderful talent of maintaining the proper balance between being creative and critical at all times. She received her bachelor’s degree at Syracuse University and then went on to complete her Ph.D. in Instructional Technology at the University of Virginia. She is an expert in implementation and process improvement. She coordinates all of our telemedicine programs with partners, serving as a main point of contact through the implementation process. She also manages our internal information systems and heads-up our in-house training programs. She is our chief web developer and maintains our website. She also helps to supervise our marketing team in growing our social media and web presence. Possibly the hardest worker we know, Emily and her arsenal of skills provide a wonderful asset to helping Iris grow!

Carisa Raucci, Ph.D.
Clinical Operations Manager

Carisa makes sure Iris delivers awesome service by being the liaison between our healthcare partners and the clinicians that work within each agency. She received her bachelor’s degree at Trinity University and then went on to complete her Ph.D. from The University of Texas at Austin in Health Behavior and Health Education. Dr. Raucci also received her MSEd in Athletic Training from Baylor University and has lectured extensively in the topics of mTBI among physicians and athletic trainers. In her spare time, Carisa enjoys house renovations, gardening, reading, traveling, and trying new foods. She roots for the New York Yankees and the San Antonio Spurs. She’s the oldest of seven, and her best friend is her 11-year-old black lab named Halo.

Dana Foltz
Clinical Hiring Manager

Dana is focused on the recruitment of quality mental health professionals as well as the placement and implementation of these clinicians across the country. She graduated from Kansas State University with a dual degree in Life Sciences and Psychology. Prior to working for Iris, Dana worked in medical sales for a startup medical device company as well as for a large pharmaceutical company with a focus on psychiatry. She is passionate about being a part of the solution to help under served areas of our communities gain quality mental health access. When Dana is not working, she enjoys spending time with her three children and husband and volunteering for various non-profits within her community. She also helps with the day-to-day chores at the Foltz Family Farm which includes 11 chickens, 3 goats, 2 cats and a dog.

Shay Cliatt
Recruiting Manager

Shay is a recruiting whiz who joined the Iris team with several years of experience as a one-woman show recruiting all sales and operations hires for her former employer. She graduated from Auburn with a BA in Psychology and will proudly tell anyone that she is an Auburn alumna, cheerfully shouting “War Eagle!” at anyone wearing any tint of orange. Shay is a military brat who moved every three or four years growing up and she still loves traveling (15 countries and counting). She has an 11 year-old Weimaraner named Nimbus who’s been in her life since she was just 8 weeks old. Shay has a wonderfully warm personality, a killer work ethic, and top notch recruiting skills – so we’re lucky to have her bringing on new talent for the Iris team.

Ted Bryant, M.S.
Clinical Operations and IT Manager

Ted brings an insane understanding of all things tech to the Iris team as our resident technology guru. He graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder with a B.A. in Communications and English, and he continued his education there to get an MS in Engineering (Telecommunications). He decided to follow a lifelong passion for teaching and got his second Master’s in Education at the University of Arizona. He has a variety of professional experience, ranging from working at AT&T to network engineering to operational management to being a teacher for high school sophomores. Ted loves the outdoors, and can probably be found hiking, biking, or playing soccer. He’s a self-proclaimed nerd who is a fan of dark beers and Dairy Queen M&M Blizzards.

Marcia Nelson, CIR
Senior Clinician Recruiter

Marcia is an AIRS Certified Internet Recruiter and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from The University of Chicago. Marcia has over 15 years of specialty recruiting experience in the medical industry for both large and small companies and has learned what truly matters when it comes to quality hiring. She is committed to making a difference in the telehealth industry by recruiting qualified mental health professionals to help us deliver quality care via telemedicine. In her free time, you can find Marcia traveling, spending time with her husband and puppies, and being an all-around amazing person.
